Monster Hunter Wilds Attracts 1.3 Million Steam Players on Day One
Capcom’s latest entry into the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds, took the gaming community by storm by reaching a record 1.3 million players on Steam within days of its release. This feat makes it the most-played Capcom game ever and one of Steam’s top six all-time most-played games.
A Record-Breaking Launch
The game launched at midnight EST, and 880,806 players had registered within the first few hours.
At 9 a.m. EST, 1,307,967 players were logged online.
This beats the record player figures of major titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
But it still lags behind PUBG, whose all-time Steam record stands at 3.26 million players.
Cross-Platform Popularity
Although these are Steam’s PC player numbers, Monster Hunter Wilds was available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as well. Console player numbers have not been released by Capcom, but total player numbers on all platforms will be much, much higher.
Player Reactions and Performance Problems
Though it began on a high note, Monster Hunter Wilds had a mixed response based on performance, particularly on PC:
Graphical glitches, crashes, and frame rate problems have angered some players.
On Steam, only 47% of over 9,000 reviews are positive, and it has a “Mixed” rating.
Capcom has recognized these issues, instructing players to update graphics drivers and adjust in-game settings for improved performance.
What’s Next for Monster Hunter Wilds?
Capcom is also now releasing patches and updates to try to curb performance issues. The popularity of the game is bound to increase even more with enhancements. Future patches, DLCs, and events will keep the player base active. With record-breaking sales and high anticipation of post-launch content, Monster Hunter Wilds is destined to be one of Capcom’s greatest all-time stories.
